Canberra's Spartak returns with Catch/Control, their first release since the live recordings of Nippon in 2011 and their first studio recordings since Verona back in 2010.
Since releasing their first album Tales From The Colony Room in 2008, Shoeb Ahmad and Evan Dorrian have gone from strength to strength with their mélange of sound art, improvised music and a DIY spirit. With the addition of new member Matt Lustri and a new focus on introspective song-craft, they have been recording over the last year in
their studio Brick Lane along with playing shows, equally at home next to producers such as Mono/Poly (Brainfeeder) and Shigeto (Ghostly Intl) or bands like My Disco (Temporary Residence).
Catch/Control, one of the first tracks completed for the upcoming extended play release Five Points, is a swirl of synths, processed guitars and bass pulses underpinned by a cascading groove and Dorrian's lead vocal. Like other songs to be found on Possessions, the sound of vocals, from both Dorrian and Ahmad, have become creative influences as Spartak explores a strain of simple yet visceral electronic music.
Included with this digital single release are remixes by well-regarded experimentalists Icarus, good friend Inch-time as well as locals Deaf Cat and Reuben Ingall.
